Agnes of God

Northumberland Players presents Agnes of God  Top

Dr. Martha Livingstone, a court-appointed psychiatrist, is sent to assess the sanity of a novice accused of murdering her newborn. Miriam Ruth, the Mother Superior, determinedly keeps young Agnes from the doctor, arousing Livingstone's suspicions further. Who killed the infant and who fathered the tiny victim? Livingstone's questions force all three women to re-examine the meaning of faith and love leading to a compelling climax.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks film that started it all, SHREK THE MUSICAL brings the hilarious story of everyone's favourite ogre to life on stage.

Featuring a terrific score of 19 all-new songs, big laughs and great dancing SHREK THE MUSICAL, tells the story of a swamp-dwelling ogre who goes on a life-changing adventure to reclaim the deed to his land. Joined by a wisecracking donkey, this unlikely hero fights a fearsome dragon, rescues a feisty princess and learns that real friendship and true love aren't only found in fairy tales. SHREK THE MUSICAL is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for every age.

Victoria Hall Volunteers Present: Celebrate Spring!  Top

Join us for an evening of Wine - Tasting, Mocktails, and Appetizers to celebrate the arrival of Spring! This event will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014 in the beautiful Concert Hall of Victoria Hall, from 8:00 pm to 10:30 pm.

The evening will provide you with tastings of our usual excellent choice of wines from several regions of the world. For the first time, we will be offering the alternative of delicious "Mocktails", or alcohol-free cocktails, as well as Mineral water. Something for everyone!

Interesting and tasty appetizers will make up our tempting food tables. A draw will be held for three prizes - one of which you might take home.

CFUW-N Scholarship Luncheon Welcomes Former Auditor General Sheila Fraser May 14th 2014  Top

The Canadian Federation of University Women-Northumberland welcomes Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada from 2001 to 2011, rated as one of the top five most trusted Canadians, as guest speaker for the upcoming CFUW-N 23rd Annual Scholarship Luncheon.

Ms Fraser's reports on the sponsorship scandal and alleged questionable practices by the former ombudsman of federal inmates rocked the country's political scene. Following her term in office, Ms. Fraser became a director of Manulife Financial and Bombardier. She has also joined the boards of the Ottawa Food Bank and the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board.

The Luncheon takes place Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the Cobourg Lions Community Centre, 157 Elgin Street East, Cobourg. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $60 each, and include a light buffet lunch with a tax receipt provided for a portion of the ticket price. All are welcome to attend. Proving a great show is always in fashion, Love, Loss, and What I Wore is an international hit. With compulsively entertaining subject matter, this collection of stories by Nora and Delia Ephron celebrated a two and a half year run in New York's Westside Theatre. Based on the best seller by Ilene Beckerman and recollections of the Ephron's friends, the show uses clothing and accessories and the memories they trigger to tell stories that all women relate to, creating one of the most enduring theatre-going experiences.

Just in Time for Mother's Day

Just when you thought your family was the most dysfunctional on the block, along come Sheldon and his mother. Enter their strange, outrageous world of an all-consuming love-hate relationship that succeeds in giving insanity a good name. Share in the angst, the aggravation, the madness and the mail of two people who although thousands of miles apart, are still too close to each other for their own good.

A thirty-one year old son runs away from his overbearing mother. The play is a series of letters between them as each searches desperately to make sense of their relationship. We are taken to places like Tibet, Bismark, North Dakota, Graceland and Yuma, Arizona. This play is based on the book Sheldon & Mrs. Levine - An Excruiating Correspondence by Sam Bobrick and Julie Styne will take place in Victoria Hall's Citizens' Forum on May 10 at 2 and 8 p.m. and May 11 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18.00, general admission cabaret style seating. (Some language may make this performance unsuitable for children).

Elton Lammie grew up in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. As a youth he was fascinated and had a passion for the country music his family had embraced. Elton quickly discovered that music was to be his main focus in life as he became accomplished as a drummer, saxophone player, bass player, guitarist and eventually a vocalist. For about 20 years Elton has been making fans as a performer from coast to coast in Canada, USA, Japan and in recent years has earned applause in Italy.

Reserved, cabaret-style seating - all shows take place at 2 p.m. at the Concert Hall. Season tickets are $60.00 + HST; individual tickets (available after February 3, 2014) are $20.00 + HST. Halifax born composer, arranger, singer and cellist, Kevin Fox has worked with a diverse range of musicians from Sarah Harmer, Sarah Brightman and Celine Dion to Tom Cochrane and Justin Bieber. Best known as a remarkable cellist, the fan base of this singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist has grown enormously since the release of his first album, Come Alive, followed by critically acclaimed Songs for Cello and Voice. A choral and band tribute to the Canadian soldiers of the First Contingent of the Canadian Expeditionary Force who sailed to Europe 100 years ago in October 1914. Featuring favourite tunes of the time such as 'It's A Long Way To Tipperary', 'Pack Up Your Troubles', 'Roses Of Picardy' and 'Keep The Home Fires Burning', to name a few. Debbie Fingas, Ian Juby & Judy Scott-Jacobs, Music Directors, with Clare Gordon, Piano and guests 'The Concert Band of Cobourg', Paul Storms, Music Director.

Two performances only on Saturday, June 14th, 2014 at Trinity United Church, Cobourg, 284 Division Street at 3:00 pm and 7:30 pm. (Last year's Coronation tribute sold out!) Both performances dedicated to the memory of Pte. George Earls, 2nd Canadian Btn, first Cobourg 'boy' killed in action on March 10th, 1915. Weddings and Receptions

Private Function/Wedding/Banquet Concert Hall at Victoria Hall Information  Top

The spring, summer and fall seasons are a busy time for us with weddings and receptions. For an up to date rental rate, please contact the office at (905) 372-2210 or 1-888-COBOURG ext.4153 and we would be happy to help you plan your special event.

We are fully booked for 2014 weddings and are now booking for 2015.

The basic rental rates include the use of the Concert Hall, The Ryerson/Guilet Room - often used for the seating chart and the photo displays; the Citizens' Forum - the bar area and the dressing rooms - for the wedding party only.

In town residents (residing within the Municipality of the Town of Cobourg) rental rate for a Friday, Saturday or Sunday is $725.00. Out of town rental rate for the same days is $800.00.

Weekday rates are $225.00 for local users and $275.00 for out of town users.

There is a $100.00 charge to use the Hall on the day previous to the event to decorate. Please note that the set up and take down of the tables and chairs and risers are included in the rental.

Other fees include - $16.00 per hour for the commissionaire (security); these staff members are in attendance for the entire event. They are responsible for opening up the building and designated rooms, maintaining building security during the event, hourly patrols of the facility and securing the building at the end of the event.

House Manager - $27.75 per hour. This member of the Concert Hall staff is in attendance from the arrival of the first vendor until the last guest has left the premises. They are responsible for enforcing all liquor regulations in accordance with the LLBO ; as well as dealing with any building issues that may arise, such as heating, cooling, lighting, sound, table requirements and guest issues.

Optional fees include an upgraded banquet chiavari chair for $250.00; rentals of easels, high chairs, topiary trees, envelope holders, special lighting effects, coffee urns, projectors, screens (a full list of rentals is available upon request).

A $100.00 non-refundable hold-the-date deposit is required at the time of booking. A user agreement is then issued and the full rental (minus the $100.00 deposit) is required within 60 days of issuing the contract.

All alcohol, including wine for tables is purchased by the Concert Hall office - no outside alcohol is allowed. A $1000.00 deposit is required one month prior to the event if a complimentary bar is requested. All wine for tables is to be paid for one month prior to the event. Please contact the office for wine pricing. Depending on the size of the event, there are two bartenders included in the rental, a fifteen per cent gratuity is added to the final billing.vThere is no smoking on any Town owned property. Alcohol may only be served and consumed in designated locations. The building is wheel chair accessible and there are washrooms to accommodate; those with mobility concerns.

Catering is the responsibility of the renter. Any licensed caterer is allowed if they present a letter from the local health unit stating that they are approved to work at the Hall.

All décor must be approved by the Concert Hall office. There are to be no attachments to the walls or woodwork. Confetti is strictly prohibited. Candles are allowed as long as the flame is fully enclosed in a hurricane-type lantern, votives and floating candles are also allowed as long as the flame does not extend above the top of the container. Battery operated candles are encouraged. There are no taper candles, open flame or candlebras allowed.

Please note that HST is applicable to all charges.
